Brain Drain
One
in three African university graduate live and work outside Africa.
Emeagwali argues that one third of the African education budget is, in effect, a
supplement to the American education budget. "Africa is giving
developmental assistance to the United States," he will argue.

Can Africa Leapfrog into the Information Age?
What Can Technology do for Africa?
Emeagwali's radical
hypothesis of leapfrogging into the
Information Age generated a lot of buzz
in 1997, prompting an African scholar to write: "I was almost driven
to the point of crying
while reading the presentation."

My Answers to 10 Difficult to Answer Questions
Thought-Provoking, Futuristic.
Two of the ten difficult to answer questions include (1) why computers, as
we know them today, will become obsolete in 20 years, and (2) why
the email will become as obsolete as the telegraph in 100 years.

Petroleum Reservoir Simulation
The mathematical and computational formulation
behind Emeagwali's work in the field of oil recovery. In reviewing this work, the May 1990 issue of
IEEE Software academic journal wrote:
"The amount of money at stake is staggering. For example, you can typically expect to recover 10 percent of a field's oil. If you can improve your production schedule to get just 1 percent more oil, you will increase your yield by $400 million (at $20 per barrel in a
20-billion-barrel field). "

It Was the Audacity of My Thinking
Who is the Father of the Internet?
The
book "History of the Internet" described Emeagwali as one of the pioneers of the Internet.
CNN called him "A Father of the Internet." Emeagwali, regarded as a
contrarian who never followed the crowd, will describe how he
invented an international network that was similar to, but predated that, of the Internet.

History of Computing
Unlike
other historians,
Emeagwali refuses to acknowledge that computing began in 1950. Instead, he credits
high concepts such as the abacus, "zero," and supercomputers as the engines
that drove the technology.
